Again my ability to think up creative titles astounds me. I have a little, teeny, tiny, flying dilemma. As the creative title suggests, it would be gnats.
How on earth do I get rid of them? I believe they are coming from the fern. I spray the leaves, soil, and little water catcher on the bottom at least once a week with a houseplant bug killer BUT THEY WON"T GO AWAY.
We re potted the fern in June, nearly killed it, and I have been babying it along. In the past month or so it has come out of its near death experience and Grandma wants me to take it with me. I do not want the gnats coming along for the ride. Will repotting again help? How about a new pot without the water catcher thingy on the bottom?
I apologize that after being MIA, I write this pitiful gnatty post. When life slows done a tad, hopefully, I will be able to come up with something more substantive.

Are you sure they are gnats and not fruit flies? We get them down here in the South like crazy. Then all the produce has to go in the fridge or sealed containers, the garbage disposal/dish drain has to be covered and the garbage put outside until they are gone. Takes about a week. You can put out little containers of white vinegar with a couple of drops of dish detergent to break the surface tension.
I am thinking fruit flies.
Except a fern doesn't have fruit.
I don't have green plants in the house. I'm not attentive enough to deserve them. Good luck on that.
Maybe you could stick it in the freezer for a bit to freeze the gnats.

We had the issue a few years back. Thought they were gnats, discovered they were fruit flies but COULD NOT figure out where they were coming from. After days and days of doing everything I could, I tore apart Tuffy's room and found some old food dropped behind his bed. Yes. I did just admit that. Once we disposed of the food, the fliers were gone!
